These three men founded and developed McDonald's. On the left is Maurice McDonald, in the middle is Richard McDonald, and on the right is Ray Kroc.
The first McDonald's opened in 1940 as a Bar-B-Q restaurant in San Bernardino, California. It was a typical drive-in, which featured a large menu and car hop service.
In 1948, McDonald's founders shut down the restaurant for a fresh new start. They reopened the restaurant as a self-service drive-in restaurant. The menu was reduced to nine items: hamburger, cheeseburger, soft drinks, milk, coffee, potato chips and a slice of pie. The main item on the menu was their hamburger, which sold for 15 cents. In 1949, french fries replaced the potato chips on the McDonald's menu and triple milkshakes made their debut.
McDonald's restaurants are still using the famous golden arches as their logo which was established in 1969. McDonald's have also made it more convenient for customers to eat their world famous burgers by installing drive-thrus in all their restaurants. Customers have used McDonald's drive-thrus system for years. The first drive-thru opened in Sierra Vista, Arizona in 1975.
